I'm looking back to one of the iconic Australian fashion labels of the 80's, Studibaker Hawk. Established in the early 80's - 1984 by Janelle Smith, David Miles and Wendy Arnold the label incorporated beautiful surface treatment with hand printed designs and georgeous sculptural elements balanced with body fitting bodices. The National Gallery of Victoria and The Powerhouse Museum Sydney both hold dresses from the label in their collections.
I so wanted one of their dresses to wear to my formal! The tactile qualities of the fabric and design and the beautiful vibrant colours were just amazing. I would love to know what the designers are up to now and hear about their experiences setting up their own label.
Artist, designer and educator, inspired by light, colour and the world around me.
